Abbie Chatfield says those critical of her open relationship are just jealous

Radio star Abbie Chatfield says those critical of her open relationship with Konrad Bień-Stephen are just jealous that they can’t do the same

Abbie Chatfield has implied that the criticism of her open relationship with boyfriend Konrad Bień-Stephen comes from a place of jealously.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph on Sunday, the former Bachelor star says people wish they could make the same arrangements in their own romances.

‘There’s two kinds of people, if you are monogamous and you want to remain monogamous, you feel that monogamy is under threat,’ the 26-year-old said.

‘Then people who maybe have wanted to not be monogamous now get angry because they’re like, “Well, why do you get to do it and I don’t’?”

Abbie confirmed that she and Konrad were non-exclusive last month, and said on her podcast It’s a Lot that setting clear boundaries early on was a struggle.

Admitting that her relationship of four months with Konrad has always been open, she then chalked down any criticism of the unconventional union to ‘baby-boomer conservatives’.

‘It’s not something you do to fix a relationship, when it’s in dire straits,’ she said. ‘It’s something you do when the relationship is going well.’

Even so, for the partners involved it was a ‘continuing conversation’, she said.

Earlier this month, Abbie complained that she was annoyed with Konrad, who had slept with two other women since they got together, while she hasn’t been with anyone else.

‘Everyone’s going to be very happy, but something’s gone wrong,’ she confessed. ‘Well, it’s not gone wrong. Everyone’s waiting for the demise [of my relationship].’

‘So obviously being open means we can sleep with other people. [That’s the] whole point. Unfortunately, I’m not doing the second part. So I’m being monogamous!’ the radio star added.

Earlier this month, Abbie revealed she has moved in with Konrad, posting the announcement to Instagram.

‘Chewwy bewwy has moved in!!!!’ Abbie captioned the post.

Konrad then shared the photo to his own Instagram before writing: ‘Love this amazing woman.’
