Discussing the moment she gave birth to her first child, Amy revealed the midwife told her: ‘Have a look what you’ve got!’

The actress recalled: ‘I said: “it’s a boy!”… and I’ve got seven nephews and we just assumed we’d have a boy…

‘They said “no look again”, and I was like: “Oh, we have Bonnie!”,’ before laughing over her mistake and explaining she saw the umbilical cord, which was still attached, and led to her confusion.

Detailing going her labour, Amy explained: ‘It was tough… I’d prepared myself for the worst, but it was worst than the worst.

‘I had to be induced, my contractions were going but I wasn’t dilating. It was hard to get her out… I had an epidural, and that came out…’

Toby, who plays Gray Atkins on EastEnders, admitted: ‘It’s so hard seeing the person you love and care about in pain, but ultimately it’s a magical thing.’

After welcoming Bonnie, the couple found that she had a tongue-tie, and decided to go privately to have it sorted out so that it was done three days following her birth.

Amy admitted how difficult breastfeeding is, reasoning: ‘People don’t expect it to be as hard as it is and think it’s them that’s struggling.’

Toby gushed of fatherhood: ‘It’s the best role I could have asked for,’ while Amy conceded that she’s not sure when she’ll return to Emmerdale.

The actress, who plays Tracy Metcalfe on the soap, confessed: ‘God knows when, I don’t know, I’ve got to figure it out logistically!’

Last month, in an interview with OK! the couple announced that they had chosen the adorable name, Bonnie Mae for their daughter and detailed how they came up with it.

Toby explained: ‘We’d go on walks around the lake where Amy used to live in Leeds during lockdown and talk about names. Bonnie was one that came up really early, even before Amy was pregnant.’

Amy and Toby have been together since 2019 after meeting by chance in the Strictly Come Dancing audience and moved in together in 2020.

He added that they would always ‘hypothetically’ use the name when discussing their future and hopes of becoming parents.
