Australian entertainer Ernie Carroll dead at 92: Puppeteer behind Hey Hey It’s Saturday’s Ossie Ostrich dies peacefully surrounded by his family
Australian entertainer Ernie Carroll, best known as the puppeteer behind Hey Hey It’s Saturday’s Ossie Ostrich, has died at the age of 92.
He passed away of natural causes on Wednesday surrounded by his family in his unit at a retirement village in Victoria.
Carroll is survived by his partner of almost 50 years Miffy Marsh, his daughter Lynne, and son Bruce.

Hey Hey It’s Saturday Daryl Somers shared a heartbreaking tribute to Ernie on social media.
‘It is with overwhelming sadness I announce the passing of my beloved friend and mentor Ernie Carroll,’ he wrote.
‘I am so grateful for Ernie’s early guidance of my career. He auditioned me for the hosting role on Cartoon Corner back in early 1971.’
He continued:’He was a man of few words with a quiet countenance but when he did speak he imparted great wisdom… I loved him very much. Rest in peace Ern. Forever in my heart.’
