Lachlan Fairbairn and his brother Jaxon have amassed 1.69 million subscribers on their YouTube channel, Fairbairn films.

And despite his fame, Lachlan found himself getting ‘completely robbed’ by a CD scam after arriving in Los Angeles last week.

The Australian influencer, 23, revealed on TikTok how he and his friend Liam Dowling handed over $40 USD ($55 AUD) each to a bunch of guys while walking down Hollywood Boulevard.

‘So I was down at Hollywood Boulevard going for a walk with Liam and we walked past and these guys came up to us,’ Lachlan began.

‘First of all they handed me a CD and sign it. And I go, “great”. I don’t really want this but I’m going to take it.’

Lachlan recalled having been given ‘so many CDs’ and left feeling ‘scared’ after they all demanded a tip.

‘They’re like, “we do this for tips. So where are our tips?”. Me and Liam are staying there, kind of scared because there’s a lot of these guys and they’re all standing around us.’

Lachlan pulled out his wallet and handed over $20, followed by another, while Liam transferred $40 via an eftpos machine.

‘We honestly just got completely robbed and that wasn’t even like a scam. We got robbed. We got properly robbed,’ Lachlan bemoaned.

Meanwhile, in an interview with The Advertiser last year, Lachlan said he and his brother Jaxon never envisaged the success they have been having with their YouTube channel.

‘I’ve been making silly little videos since I was about 10 years old, then when I was in year nine I got a DSLR (camera) and we just kind of started putting them up online,’ he said.

‘We were definitely considered as those weird kids doing it, but then in Year 12 (2016) I think we hit our first million views on a video it all started to get serious.’

Their fame is no doubt down to their down-to-earth nature and sense of humour.

‘I think people like seeing and hearing us because you don’t see a lot of bogan Aussies on the telly and stuff, not that we’re extremely bogan,’ Lachlan said.
