A murder investigation has now been launched by the Metropolitan Police and officers are appealing for witnesses.

An 18-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

A crime scene remains in place, reports My London.

“A 16-year-old boy was found with a stab injury and taken to hospital in a critical condition; he sadly died in the early hours of this morning. His family have been informed,” a Met Police spokesman said today.

Roads were closed and other bus services were diverted last night in the suburb, just west of Romford.

Residents shared their concern at the attack.

One resident, whose home overlooks the scene, said: “There were groups of boys fighting on and outside the bus.

“It was frantic, there was a lot of shouting. It was just after school and school kids were watching.

“It was horrible. The boy was left for dead and the others ran off.”

The investigation continues.
