Britain's Got Talent viewers are 'traumatised' after a man nearly drowned during the ITV show


Britain’s Got Talent viewers were left glued to their screens after a man nearly drowned on Saturday’s show.

The hit ITV programme left fans ‘traumatised’ after escapologist Andrew Basso took to the stage to perform a terrifying act.  

The 36-year-old tried to entertain fans by climbing into a water torture cell which he had to escape by unpicking a lock while handcuffed upside down.

Andrew explained to the judges, Simon Cowell, 62,  Amanda Holden, 51, Alesha Dixon, 43, and David Walliams, 50, that Harry Houdini had described the act, which represented the ‘peak of his creation’ as the ‘most dangerous and difficult’.

The performer told the judges: ‘I will escape in two minutes.

‘Any longer, and I may not come out alive. I’m risking my life.’

The clock started counting down and tensions were high as dramatic music played in the background.

Alesha asked: ‘Is this part of the act?’

David replied: ‘I don’t know.’

All four judges and the audience gave him a standing ovation, while viewers at home were left in shock. 

Fans took to Twitter to share their amazement, with some writing that they held been left ‘traumatised’ and forced to hold a ‘cushion over my face’.

Elsewhere, during the show, David finally dished out his golden buzzer after being blown away by the efforts of dance group Born To Perform.

The group, made up of people with disabilities from Northampton, lit up the stage with an energetic performance to You Can’t Stop The Beat from the musical Hairspray, leaving everyone on their feet.

And the routine impressed the comedian, 50, so much that he pressed this buzzer and showered the stage with gold, with the moment leaving fellow judge Amanda Holden in tears.

The fun-filled dance, featuring spins, cartwheels and lots of shimmying, left everyone with a huge smile on their faces, with host Dec declaring that it was ‘Joyous, just joyous!’

Commenting after the performance, Alesha Dixon told the group, made up of 14-24 year-olds: ‘Your passion is just pouring out, it’s just wonderful to see, you did a fantastic job, each and every one of you.’

While Amanda said: ‘I did not stop smiling for the whole of that performance, you were amazing!’

Reverting to his famous catchphrase, Simon declared: ‘I didn’t like it, I loved it!’

The music mogul then added: ‘I loved the fact that you were having such a great time, it was actually one of my favourite auditions.’

When it came to David, his excitement was clear to see as he announced: ‘I absolutely loved it guys. In fact, I loved it so much that I’m gonna do this!’

He then reached over and pressed the golden buzzer, much to the shock of Born To Perform, with both cheers and tears coming from the group. 

As David headed to the stage to congratulate them and greet them with fist bumps, Amanda was seen wiping away the tears at the emotional moment.
