Cameron Diaz wants to live to 110: Reveals secrets to staying young

Cameron Diaz is sharing her secrets on staying young and has revealed how a painful Achilles injury recently made her slow down and finally listen to her body as the movie star approaches turning 50 in August.

Proudly declaring that her family is from ‘sturdy stock,’ the Charlie’s Angels actress says she’s ‘excited’ by the aging process, and wants to make it to 110 by continuing to follow a healthy and active lifestyle, saying she’s got ’50 or 60 years to go.’

However, Cameron, 49, explained that sustaining a leg injury made her revaluate the pressure she had been putting on her body by constantly working out, in a new article for Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop website.

Earlier this year, the wife of rocker Benji Madden was pictured walking around Los Angeles wearing a leg brace, which Cameron reveals put her out of action in the gym for at least eight months.

‘I’m still healing from an injured Achilles, so I’ve been away from working out for eight months,’ she revealed. ‘I used to be really strong and really active, and I was made to sort of be still for a while.’

‘Being so strong most of my life, I was used to going hard and leaning into my strength, and I’ve had to do the opposite,’ she added, and said instead of pushing herself she ‘honored the fact I had an injury.’

But taking time out to rest made Cameron realize the importance of listening to your body as you get older, and hinted that it is getting her ready to tackle the menopause.

‘It’s been a process of building myself back, and I feel like I’m stronger now than when I started,’ she said.

‘I’m looking forward to all the aspects of growth to come in my 50s. I’m working on building my muscle mass so I’ll have it as my hormones change.’

Cameron, who shares two-year-old daughter Raddix with Benji, 43, said ‘the whole concept of aging’ has changed in the past 10 years, and is excited about what’s to come.

‘It’s totally opened up. I’m excited. I’ve got 50 or 60 years to go – I want to live to be 110, since I’ve got a young child. I think you have this amazing moment in your 40s where you appreciate who your parents are, and I want to have that moment with her – be there with her in her 40s.’

She has also come to terms with not being the youngest mother in her group of friends, after welcoming her first child at 47 in 2020.

‘I’m the oldest mom in my group of girlfriends with kids, and it’s great. I’m lucky to be my age, lucky to have those girlfriends, lucky to have my daughter, lucky to have all the support I do raising her,’ she said.

Although Cameron started her career as a sex symbol, wowing fans with her glamorous breakthrough role role in The Mask, the star admits she’s over the need to be ‘sexy’ at all times.

She said defiantly: ‘I’m here to say I’m moving past that: I don’t care! I want to be strong and healthy, to have the stretch and resilience in my body to be able to do the things I want to do.’

And when it comes to her staying young secrets, Cameron is all about keeping it simple and going easy on sugar, which is why she has brought out her own wine collection, Avaline, that stays away from extra sugar, artificial colorants and extra sulfites.

Cameron previously talked about how women should not focus on dreading the menopause side effects, and instead embrace what is to come.

She told Women’s Health in 2016: “Make connections, make friends, join communities, and really honor yourself. [As a 40-something] You’re getting ready to make that transition to menopause, so pay attention to where you’re at emotionally, physically, and mentally.’

‘The women who stress have it longer and harder, but the ones who accept it have it shorter and less severe.’
