Celebrity chef ‘Fast Ed’ Halmagyi has opened up about his lifelong struggle with bipolar disorder.

The Better Homes and Gardens star, 47, has vowed to no longer hide his condition, which has affected him since he was a teenager.

Bipolar disorder, formerly known as manic depression, is a mental health condition that causes severe mood swings ranging from euphoric mania to extreme depression.

Ed said he hoped by going public he could help others suffering from the disorder.

In a revealing interview with New Idea, the father of two said: ‘It’s something everyone wants to sweep under the carpet, but if someone in your family is struggling, please help them get help.’

The television presenter added: ‘If someone like me can’t speak up then what chance do others have?’

But Ed finally decided he could not continue living with the condition without help. 

He said the support of his wife Leah finally prompted him to seek treatment.
