Celebs Go Dating viewers shocked after Ulrika Jonsson gets harsh criticism from companion Tal

Celebs Go Dating viewers were left shocked after Ulrika Jonsson’s date gave her some harsh criticism on Tuesday night’s show, with viewers saying she had a ‘lucky escape’.

The television presenter, 54, enlisted the help of show experts Anna Williamson and Paul C Brunson before heading on her first date, but her companion Tal was less than impressed with their time together.

Tal rated the star a six out of 10 following their meeting and took the opportunity to offer some advice to Ulrika, telling her: ‘I would also say, constructively, a date, ultimately, should be fun. If you’re not having fun opposite the person that you’re talking to, don’t do it. Get up and leave.

‘You didn’t get up and leave, so I think you had some fun. If you were to get a seven, you’d have to work a little harder. But I make everybody work harder for a seven.’

A surprised Anna said: ‘Ulrika, that was big feedback. Would you like to respond to that, how’ve you taken that on board?’

Struggling to get her words out, Ulrika replied: ‘I think some of that was really… useful.

‘I felt you arrived very much with a pre-conceived idea of how my life looked and who I was – and that didn’t go down too well with me, because I wanted you to come and learn about me, from me. Not from what you thought you knew about me.’

A baffled Tal simply replied: ‘Fair enough.’

The viewing audience was just as surprised as Anna by Tal’s words, with one person writing on Twitter: ‘Ulrika had a lucky escape #CelebsGoDating.’

While someone else wrote: ‘That was very long feedback from Tal basically Ulrika was bored of you mate.’

Another viewer tweeted: ‘I feel sorry for Ulrika, this Tal bloke is a snooze fest.’

Hitting back at Tal, someone else shared: ‘Tal, Ulrika wanted a drink cos you were explaining why you’re called Tal.’

Meanwhile, another person posted: ‘Problem for Ulrika is that, unlike the others, at her peak she was a genuine celebrity so people are going to know a lot about her. Going to be incredibly tough for her to find someone that isn’t going to want to ask her about it all.’

Last week, Ulrika revealed she wanted to be ‘laughed into bed’ as she talked about what she was looking for in a man on Celebs Go Dating, saying she was set up with men as young as 26 on the show.

The mum-of-four dismissed the idea of looking for Mr Right as she said: ‘I’m not looking for “the one”. I don’t need that anymore. I’m so content in my own company.’

Speaking to The Sun, Ulrika said: ‘I can’t bear arrogant, cocky people. But shy is painful. You want somebody who’s confident.

‘Funny is so sexy and so brilliant. We all want to be laughed into bed, right?’

The television personality continued to say she is just looking for someone ‘enhances’ her life and she is not looking to settle down, get married or have kids.

It comes after Ulrika revealed she was set up with men as young as 26 on the programme.

The star divulged she’s found it ‘refreshing’ dating younger men because they don’t know who she is.

The star was quizzed on Loose Women last week about her love life while promoting the dating series.

The Sweden-born TV star began by explaining that while her three ex-husbands were her age, her recent dates have been up to 28 years her junior, the youngest admirer only 26.

She admitted: ‘Recent ones, I’ve only really had dates, I guess, I’ve not had a relationship with anybody – but the dates have been a little younger, yes.

‘They didn’t know I was Ulrika Jonsson, which was great.’

She added thoughtfully: ‘That’s the dream, to have someone just take you for who you are. I guess the youngest was 26. So yeah 26, 30 ish.’

The star is among the latest group of celebrities hoping to be lucky in love in the upcoming series of the dating show.

Of her ideal match, Ulrika said ‘variety is the spice of life’ and said she won’t be changing now she’s in her fifties.

‘If I’m too lively, too crazy for someone, then you’re not my guy. You need to be able to handle someone who is lively and is not prepared to go quietly into older age.

‘But you’ve got to have some conversation as well, right? That doesn’t always happen,’ she said candidly.

She went on to explain: ‘I’ve never had a type, so variety has been the spice of life.

‘I guess you could tick boxes and say this is what I’m looking for, or this is what I would like this person to have, but the second you see them come in you more or less know.’

Ulrika has been single since her 2019 divorce from third husband Brian Monet after the pair parted ways after ten years together. They have one son, Malcolm, 13.

Her first marriage to cameraman John Turnbull was in 1990 and they have a son, Cameron, 27.

Ulrika’s lost loves: Through the ages

1990 – John Turnbull

Ulrika’s first marriage was to cameraman John, however things ended in tears after five years when she cheated on him. She blamed her actions on her ages, as she previously said: ‘I was so young. I didn’t know myself. I did some not very nice things. I was unfaithful, which is more than not nice’.

                                                                         1996 – Hunter

Shortly after her divorce, Ulrika sought comfort in the arms of Gladiator’s star James Crossley, after meeting while she acted as host on the show. After their romance, she said: ‘Well, I guess I was infatuated with James. It was a physical thing. And what a nice man he turned out to be’ – as she referenced him selling stories about their romance to the papers.

1998 – Stan Collymore

Ulrika dated former footballer Stan for a year however their relationship was marred with controversy when she was a victim of domestic abuse.

2000 – Markus Kempen

2002 – Lance Gerrard-Wright

Husband number two Lance was supposed to be the prize for the female contestants on Mr Right, a 2002 TV dating show she presented. They married in 2003. She had their daughter Martha in 2004 and they separated in 2005.

2002 – Sven-Göran Eriksson

Ulrika and the football manager stunned the sport and showbiz world when she confirmed widely-publcised reports of an affair between the duo while he was dating Nancy Dell’Olio. As a result of the affair she was given a column in The News Of The World in 2003 where she would frequently comment on his private life. She was dropped in 2007 after he left as England manager.
