Channel Seven CANCELS Big Brother VIP amid low ratings – but plans to bring back the regular version for another season this year

Channel Seven has pulled the plug on Big Brother VIP after just one season.

The star-studded reality show failed to bring in big ratings for the network when it aired last year, despite an incredible cast of local and international names.

TV Tonight confirmed the news, but reported that Seven’s civilian Big Brother will return in the second quarter of 2022.

When the OG Big Brother returns, there will be a slight ‘shake up’ in the nominations process.

‘It won’t be as formulaic as “Here comes the challenge, the eviction segment”,’ Seven’s Head of Scheduling Brook Hall said.

‘There’ll be nomination nights, task nights, it will be broken up…. we want to make sure there’s some fun in there.’

Big Brother VIP premiered last year to disastrous ratings, pulling in just 377,000 viewers for its premiere episode.

It eventually plunged to a low of 302,000, and closed out its 11 episode season at 311,000.

This was despite Seven coughing up the big bucks to assemble a headline-grabbing cast, many of whom were A-listers in the world of reality television.

Caitlyn Jenner was rumoured to be paid $500,000 for the gig, while former Donald Trump staffer and star of The Apprentice franchise Omarosa Manigault Newman took home $450,000.

Local stars Jessika Power and Imogen Anthony were said to have received far less, taking home just $20,000 each.

Meghan Markle’s half-brother Thomas Markle Jr is rumoured to received the biggest pay day for his appearance, but the exact figure hasn’t been reported.

Australian Survivor star Luke Toki won the season, with model Ellie Gonsalves coming second.
