Channing Tatum says he considered quitting acting but new film Dog inspired him to take up directing


Channing Tatum reveals he seriously considered quitting the film industry before his new movie Dog came along and inspired him to take up directing


Channing Tatum has revealed that his fans may not have seen him return to the big screen if a very special film had not come his way. 

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph on Tuesday, the Hollywood superstar says his new movie, Dog, inspired him to continue after he considered quitting the industry.   

‘I didn’t want to just keep taking jobs,’ the 41-year-old told the publication.

‘I really made it a specific thing to let the studios know that I wasn’t really looking for anything for a while.’ 

The 21 Jump Street star added that he was focused being a dad on his daughter, Everly, eight.     

‘I wanted to spend some time with my daughter and have some space in my life to figure out, “Do I want to keep doing this?”‘ he said.

‘And I was lucky enough to have the space to be able to do that, because a lot of people can’t.’   

The Jupiter Ascending actor shares co-parenting responsibilities of daughter Everly with his ex-wife, Jenna Dewan.

The couple separated in April 2018 after nearly ten years of marriage and finalised their divorce in November 2019.

Not only does Channing star in Dog, but it’s co-directed by him and Magic Mike producer Reid Carolin, who also wrote the screenplay. 

The road-trip movie sees Channing play a brain-injured, medically discharged former Army Ranger who charged with taking a dangerous military dog suffering from combat stress to the funeral of its former handler. 

Channing has revealed that his directorial debut was inspired by a heartfelt and personal story – his beloved pooch Lulu, who passed away in December 2018.

Channing now has his acting mojo back and will next appear in Magic Mike 3.   

He will reprise his role as stripper Mike Lane and is reuniting with director Steven Soderbergh for Magic Mike’s Last Dance. 

The original 2012 film’s all-star cast included Matthew McConaughey, Riley Keough, Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer and Olivia Munn.

Its sequel, Magic Mike XXL, was released in 2015, and also featured Jada Pinkett Smith, Donald Glover, Andie MacDowell, Amber Heard and Elizabeth Banks.
