Coleen Nolan speaks out at her ex Shane Richie's storyline in EastEnders

‘You would NOT pick Phil over Alfie’: Coleen Nolan calls her ex Shane Richie’s EastEnders storyline ‘ridiculous’ after he attempts to win back Kat Slater from Phil Mitchell

Coleen Nolan has admitted she thinks her ex-husband Shane Richie’s new storyline in EastEnders is ‘ridiciulous’.

The TV presenter, 57, wasn’t shy about voicing her opinion on Shane’s character Alfie Moon (Shane) returning to Walford where he has vowed to win back Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) ahead of her wedding to Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).

Speaking on Tuesday’s Loose Women, Coleen was asked by her fellow panellist Katie Piper: ‘Don’t you think Kat and Phil make a great couple?’

Coleen replied: ‘No! No I’m sorry, it’s ridiculous. You would not pick Phil over Alfie. Absolutely [speaking from past experience]. Kat and Alfie just go together; they’ve been together for years. Phil’s just always miserable.’

‘Well he’s not anymore now he’s got Kat,’ Katie said to which Coleen laughed.

Shane was last in EastEnders in 2019 and has now returned as he tries to win back Kat from Phil.

Speaking about returning to the soap, Shane said: ‘It’s an absolute honour and privilege to be asked back to my TV home of Albert Square.

‘I’m looking forward to catching up with some old cast mates and meeting some new ones.

‘The new exec producer Chris Clenshaw has been instrumental in wanting to bring Alfie Moon back with some wonderful storylines… and who am I to say no?! I can’t wait.’

Executive producer Chris added: ‘Shane Richie created one of the most iconic, loveable and most memorable characters in soap, and to welcome him back to Walford is an absolute pleasure.’

Shane also discussed his return during an interview with The Mirror, saying: ‘We sat down and he said, ”Listen, I’ve got this idea of bringing Alfie back,” and I said really?

‘Then he sold it to me said we want the old Alfie, because over the years there’s been all very different Alfies, and my favourite Alfie is from 2002 to 2005, look it up. That’s the Alfie we have got back.”

He went on: “So Chris [Clenshaw] was so instrumental, for telling me the long-term storyline with Alfie and it’s the old Alfie.
