He told Metro: ‘We created this incredibly cinematic sequence for the setpiece of this week, which I’m incredibly excited about.

‘The gist of the week is we all know, and it leaves me with a heavy heart to say it, but we all know Kelly’s leaving the show.

‘So we thought, well, actually, the fact that Millie is going and that therefore Kelly is going, allows us to go really big and do something incredibly high stakes.’

Admitting that the show is ‘like a home’ for her, the tough decision wasn’t taken lightly by the star, who also had to convince her parents it was the right move.

Talking to Metro on her departure, Millie explained: ‘I have no responsibilities – I don’t have kids, I don’t have a mortgage to pay or anything like that, I’m still grateful to be living at home.

‘So I thought I’m just going to see what else the world has. If it does, it does – that would be quite good, wouldn’t it? I just thought I might as well see what happens while I’m still young.’

The actress, who turned 18 in June and previously starred in the CBBC show Jamie Johnson, was adamant to leave while she’s still young.

‘Because I’m so young I thought I’ve got to leave. It was a decision where it would always be in the back of my mind if I didn’t make it, so I had to just go with it and see what happens,’ she continued.

But admitting that her parents had their reservations and urged her to stay in the ‘secure’ role, Millie explained that she ‘had to trust my instincts’.

She joined the show back in 2019 as the daughter Rick Neelan (Greg Wood), before becoming a regular cast member in 2020 – and even winning a National Soap Award for her performance in the TV series.
