There aren’t many singers who receive a standing ovation before a performance.

The 76-year-old rocker wowed the crowd at Glasgow’s Hydro arena on Friday night before she sang a single note as the iconic American band kicked off their first UK tour in five years.

Debbie showed off her impeccable sense of style opting for a bright pink and orange attire on the night.

Hardcore fans were treated to an energetic two-hour set with hits such as Atomic, Heart of Glass, Hanging on the Telephone and Picture.

Debbie told the crowd at the 14,000-capacity arena: ‘This is a long time coming for me. It’s really an honour to be back here.’

The show had been postponed due to Covid however the disappointment of that delay has been well and truly cushioned by the bands incredible display on the night.

Earlier in the week, Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway said Debbie looked ‘amazing’, while co-host Richard Arnold added: ‘She has ripened beautifully’.

The performance comes after the former wild child rocker revealed her hell-raising days are behind her – as she has taken up knitting.

The former heroin addict, has previously spoken about how she ‘tried everything’ during the band’s heyday.

In an interview for The Big Issue with Johnny Marr, the former guitarist with The Smiths, the singer said: ‘I’m curious about how I will respond to being back out on the road, since I haven’t done it for a couple of years.

‘I’ve had to change my behaviour over the years, and behaviour is very hard to change.

‘On tour these days I do what the women on the front during the French Revolution would do. I sit there knitting and rocking back and forth.

‘That’s what I do. I will be bringing my knitting needles with me.’
