Delta Goodrem 'deeply humbled' with surprise Australia Day victory


Delta Goodrem says she feels ‘deeply humbled’ after being awarded an Order of Australia for services to performing arts and charity


Delta Goodrem has been awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for her services to the performing arts and charity.  

The 37-year-old Australian singer-songwriter has said she is ‘deeply humbled’ and full of gratitude by the accolade, in an official statement on Wednesday.

In a lengthy post shared to her Instagram, the hitmaker said: ‘I am deeply humbled to receive an Order of Australia AM honour and reflect today with so much gratitude.’

‘From being taken into your hearts and homes as a teenager and the incredible connection and exchange of love I feel from people that I hold in my heart.

‘At my core, I believe in the power of kindness and my intention has always been to give back and to make a difference.

‘I continue to be inspired through my music and the @DeltaGoodremFoundation that serves to touch lives and inspire hearts as a force for good.

‘I am a deeply proud Australian and this honour means the world to me. Through the many chapters and eras we all continue to share together the best is yet to come. It’s an honour.’

Delta’s post was quickly inundated with comments from her fans writing how incredibly proud they were of the singer.

‘Congratulations D!! You truly do deserve it,’ one wrote.  Another added that the honour was long overdue.

The award-winning singer is one of 1,040 Australians to be honoured in the 2020 list, joining stars including mining magnate Gina Rinehart, actress Deborra-Lee Furness, much-loved television cook Maggie Beer and sports stars Daniel Ricciardo and Dylan Alcott. 

Delta was appointed a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for her services to the performing arts and charity. 

Goodrem admitted she cried ‘happy tears’ when she got the news about the AM.

‘It was a strong intention to give back from the day I got into music because I believe in people and the power of kindness and I wanted to lift someone’s day through song,’ she told The Daily Telegraph.

‘As fate would have it, I did go through a very personal challenge which changed that dynamic and I developed these incredible relationships with the people at St Vincent’s that allowed me to strive to make a difference.’
