Eddie Izzard, Dame Emma Thompson and Greg Wise attend event in honour of Alan Rickman


Eddie Izzard looked glamorous on Sunday as she led the celebrities at the British Film Institute’s event in London to celebrate the life of late actor Alan Rickman.

The comedian, 60, sported a red midi dress with a wrap over detail for the event, which took place ahead of the forthcoming launch of a book containing Alan’s condensed diaries.

A slew of famous faces and good friends of the legendary actor were also in attendance to the commemorative event – including Dame Emma Thompson and husband Greg Wise. 

Harry Potter legend Alan passed away in 2016 at the age of 69, after a private battle with pancreatic cancer.

Teaming the red dress with black tights, Eddie elevated her height with a pair of glossy, pointed toe heels.

She added a bright red lip to match the look, beaming for snaps inside the BFI Southbank event – dubbed Madly, Deeply: A Celebration Of Alan Rickman.

Meanwhile, Emma – who starred across from Alan in a slew of productions, including classic Christmas flick Love Actually – dressed smartly in a white shirt and grey, tartan patterned trousers.

Clutching onto the soon-to-be-released book, the actress also added a red lip look as she beamed alongside her husband Greg.

The producer and actor looked dapper in a pair of black jeans, paired with a light blue shirt and black blazer to match.

Celebrating the life and hugely succesful career of Alan, the event was hosted by Mark Kermode and featured some of his most iconic moments on-screen and excerpts from his diaries.

Starting in the early ’90s, Alan wrote dozens of detailed handwritten journals – which have all been edited & condensed into a single volume to create the book Madly, Deeply: The Alan Rickman Diaries.

It was announced in June that Henry Holt & Company will publish Madly Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman – with a release date of October 4. 

The event’s celebrity guestlist, who took to the stage to tell anecdotes and stories about the late star, also included his wife Rima Horton, Dame Harriet Walker, Timothy Spall, Stanley Tucci.

While taking to the stage with animated stories of their memories with the star was also Ruby Wax and Sir Ian McKellen.

Ruby has previously dubbed Alan her ‘mentor’ and ‘icon’ in the industry, telling MailOnline last year: ‘He was hilarious. He was my mentor and he taught me how to do comedy. I would say he saved me.’

Alan passed in January 2016 at 69 years of age, months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

The actor only revealed his terminal cancer diagnosis to closest family and confidents, with the public and many friends first learning of the illness when his death was announced.

And now, the legendary star’s diaries delve even more into his life on and off of the screen, allowing readers to learn more about his years in the spotlight.
