Gemma Owen appears to take a swipe at Molly-Mae Hague as she says she is 'unique'


Gemma Owen has appeared to take a swipe at Molly-Mae Hague after saying her style is ‘unique’ while comparing their ‘completely different’ fashion tastes.

The Love Island star, 19, signed a six-figure deal with PrettyLittleThing and fans have drawn comparisons between her new range and Molly-Mae’s collection with the brand.

But Gemma has seemingly made a dig at the former Love Island winner, 23, as she spoke about ‘following in the footsteps’ of Molly-Mae, who is PLT’s creative director.

The team GB dressage champion described her own style as ‘timeless’ and ‘unique’ as she compared her fashion taste with Molly-Mae’s, adding that they are ‘completely different’.

She told OK! Magazine: ‘I think obviously, I’ve got a lot of respect for Molly-Mae, and she’s an inspiration to a lot of girls.

‘But I think we are completely different people, I like to think I’m unique. I think my style is timeless.’     

Gemma is the first UK brand ambassador to impress PLT CEO Umar Kamani, 34, since they signed Love Island 2019 runner-up Molly-Mae, who is now estimated to be worth an eye-watering £4.5million.

Gemma, who is the daughter of former footballer Michael Owen, added to The Sun: ‘I think my edit is mine, it’s true to me and what I am.’

The International horse rider also spoke to MailOnline and said she is ‘really happy’ with the way her collection turned out. 

She gushed: ‘The edit is classy, elegant, and has something for everyone. I love every outfit, every piece. I’m really happy with it.

The star also spoke about being motivated by Molly-Mae, but said they have never actually meeting in person. 

She added: ‘Molly-Mae is obviously a huge inspiration to many girls, with the business side of things as well she is a good role model. 

‘It’s definitely nice to follow in her footsteps. We’ve not met yet – everything has been so busy and what with her news with the baby – it is amazing but we’re yet to have a conversation.’

Gemma’s new 48-piece collection, which is available to buy online, ranges from £10 to £75 – and according to the Love Island star, there’s plenty to choose from. 

She jetting to Saville last month to star in her first photo shoot for PLT, the Gemma Owen Edit.

The brunette beauty celebrated her star-studded launch party for the collection on Monday at swanky restaurant Isabel in London. 

Meanwhile, Molly-Mae has launched several collections since leaving Love Island with the brand, most recently Autumn/Winter items ranging from a UK size 4 to 30.

The social media influencer has previously debuted her former collection in a lavish fashion show held at The Londoner. 

Gemma told MailOnline about her new PLT role last month: ‘This really is a dream come true for me.

‘I wore PrettyLittleThing throughout my time on the show and now being announced as one of their newest ambassadors alongside some incredible talent including Love Island alumni is really special.

‘The team has been amazing and I’m excited to get to work and start designing some collections for you all.’

Gemma’s year-long partnership with PLT will see the ITV2 star launch her own collections and create content for the brand’s YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok channels. 

She will also help the brand launch their new platform PLT Marketplace, where customers can resell clothes in a move towards improved sustainability.

Gemma is already the owner of OG Swimwear, which she launched prior to starring on the dating show this summer.
