'Great sports' Charles and Camilla knock back pints in Canada leaving locals ecstatic

After popping into the local lakeside watering hole, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall poured a couple of pints of the 2,000 year old Iceberg beer to cheers from delighted locals. They also tried the beer themselves with the Duchess proclaiming that it was “very good.”

There was also a table set up for local merchants and restaurant owners to show off their produce.

It was here that the royal couple met local chef and restaurant owner Jeremy Charles who handed the Prince of Wales his book “Wildness – An Ode to Newfoundland and Labrador”.

Taking the book Charles smiled broadly and asked cheekily “Is it 100 ways to cook a moose?”

Mr Charles laughed in response and explained the book was a celebration of the wild food of the region.

The New York Times has previously described Mr Charles as “a leader in a growing movement to celebrate the cuisine of the North”.

Co-owner of the brewery, Justin Fong said that the royal couple had given locals “great memories”.

He said: “They were both great sports.

“They’ve given us all great memories of their time here.

“We were planning the visit for two months and it went without a hitch so we are delighted.”

The Quidi Vidi Brewing Company was founded in Quidi Vidi village on St. John’s island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada back in 1982.

After travelling to the UK, Mr Fong’s father became a fan of home brewed IPA and lager so he decided to set up the brewery in 1996 on the site of a former fish plant.

It has since become a popular tourist destination.

Following the warm welcome, the royal couple started their visit with a welcoming ceremony in St John’s.
