Lives are risk in an upcoming episode of Hollyoaks this month when John Paul McQueen takes on the job of designated driver on a school trip despite swigging from a bottle of vodka as he continues to battle alcoholism.

John Paul, played by James Sutton, 39, makes the potentially fatal decision to drive the school minibus after finding the vessel of spirits in the pocket of his jacket. 

In the moment, he is overwhelmed by cravings to down the intoxicating liquid and becomes more on edge as he fights to do the right thing.

However, as the pupils become rowdier and the stress ramps up as they get lost, John Paul is unable to resist and downs the drink.

As they try and make their way back to safety, John Paul’s eyes close and they swerve off the road with the vehicle crashing onto its side.

In a later episode, John Paul regains consciousness and feelings of doom set it when he comes to the realisation of what he has done.
