‘It came right out’: Mrs Hinch fans share £1 hack for removing oil stains from clothes


Cleaning star Mrs Hinch, whose full name is Sophie Hinchliffe, garnered popularity after sharing her cleaning tips and recommendations on social media and TV. The cleaning enthusiast has managed to gain over 4.2 million followers on Instagram. Now, fans of hers have created their own social media groups dedicated to cleaning and tidying tips.

One of the groups, which has more than 631,000 members, receives hundreds of tips each day.

Facebook user Anne-Marie Staff asked on the group: “Hi there is anyone able to help me?

“My husband’s trousers appear to have some grease on them.

“We only noticed after they came out of the wash.

Belinda Wright said: “Fairy liquid, put a good blob on. Leave to soak in.

“Wash as normal. May need to do twice.”

Frances Jane Main said: “Original Fairy liquid, put on neat, add a small amount of water and leave for as long as you can, it will definitely work.”

Fairy Original Washing Up Liquid Green with LiftAction 433ml can be purchased from Sainsbury’s for £1.

Fairy Platinum Washing Up Liquid 900ml can be bought from Wilko for £2.

Fairy Wash Up Liquid 383ml can be bought from The Range for £1.

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included using talcum powder and Elbow Grease.

Pat Lynch said: “Please try talcum powder, pat it on leave to soak grease up, brush off, repeat if still there. Worked for me.”

Helen Johnstone wrote: “Baby powder works a treat.

“I spilt massage oil on mine and rubbed baby powder and left it for a while and the marks were gone.”

Johanna Lee Barnes said: “Spray with Elbow Grease and rewash.

“Happens to my son’s school jumpers, think it’s the softener.”

Brenda Truter replied: “I was able to remove spilt olive oil from an expensive top using eucalyptus oil.

“Sounds weird, please Google it. Pour a little over the stain, leave for an hour or so then wash.

“Came out like magic. Good luck.”

Kay Robinson said: “Lighter fuel, squirt on and wash immediately, works every time.”
