The Big Lebowski star, 72, chat with reporters on Tuesday in promotion of his new FX show The Old Man, after production stopped for 15 months amid his health battle.

‘I went through a year-and-a-half of this bizarre dream and then came back,’ the Oscar winner said, according to Deadline. ‘It was great to be back with the gang.’

The Hollywood veteran, of films such as Crazy Heart, The Last Picture Show and True Grit, revealed he was battling the blood cancer in October of 2020, and said last autumn that he was in remission.

Bridges appeared in the virtual news conference alongside his co-stars on the action thriller, including Amy Brenneman, 57, and John Lithgow, 76.

Bridges said he adapted to the series role remembering advice from his late father, actor Lloyd Bridges, who he said filmed six series in his career.

‘He’s my teacher,’ Bridges said of his late father, who died in 1998. ‘I resist everything. Each assignment has a unique quality. This one was going to have a lot of physicality.’

The Old Man production has started and stopped twice, once due to the coronavirus pandemic and once to Bridges’ health battle. The actor on Tuesday credited his collaborators for their consideration and support amid the tough time.

‘As far as I’m concerned, FX and all of the team were so considerate and gave me all of the time I needed to heal and all the support I needed,’ Bridges said, according to The Wrap. ‘The protocols – we were still in COVID – made me feel very safe and eager to get down to business and play.’

Brenneman credited Bridges for ‘always [being] available,’ as well as his upbeat candor amid the health crisis.

She said when she asked him about his recovery, he would say, ‘It was weird but it was interesting – it was cool!’

Lithgow opened up about how Bridges was helpful to his older brother David, who ‘was diagnosed with something very, very similar to what Jeff suffered from.

‘And as soon as I told him about my brother, he immediately got in touch with him, sent him information, he never met the man. Jeff is the most big-hearted person. It’s not like you are working with an actor at all. It’s like you are working with a friend.’

The Old Man, which is based on Thomas Perry’s novel, casts Bridges as a former CIA operative named Dan Chase who finds himself hunted by a hitman, played by Gbenga Akinnagbe.

The show also features Alia Shawkat, Bill Heck, Seem Lubany and EJ Bonilla. It is slated to debut on FX June 16.
