Jessie Wallace's EastEnders co-star Scott Maslen explains that her arrest was due to 'tiredness'

Jessie Wallace’s EastEnders co-star Scott Maslen has leaped to support his pal following her recent run-in with the law, detailing that sometimes ‘you get caught out’.

The actor, who plays Jack Branning in the soap, showed solidarity to the actress after she was snapped getting arrested last month after allegedly ‘telling a police officer to “f*** off you fat c***” during five minutes of carnage’ in Bury St Edmunds.

Putting the incident down to the ‘tiring nature’ of Jessie’s job, he assured that the 50-year-old has ‘learned’ from the incident.

Just last month, Jessie hit headlines after footage showed her getting arrested outside of a Burger King after reportedly being ‘kicked out’ of Flex nightclub for being ‘gobby’ and at branding onlookers ‘c***s’ in a foul-mouthed rant.

The star was detained on suspicion of assaulting a police officer as well as drunk and disorderly conduct, but released without charge by Suffolk Police after receiving a conditional caution.

But chatting to The Sun on Sunday, Scott explained: ‘It’s hard in this job. You get caught out sometimes, it’s life.’

Continuing that he ‘loves Jessie’, he shared that there is ‘nothing wrong with her’, adding that the spotlight makes it harder to let loose.

‘She’s a character, she works very hard, it’s long days, so when she goes out occasionally, maybe she’s tired. We’re under the spotlight, that’s the reality, so when you do make a mistake, you have to be careful,’ explained Scott.

Adding: ‘She’s in a good place, we move on, she’s learned and we go forward.’

Following the arrest, there were reports that Jessie’s future on BBC soap EastEnders, in which she plays character Kat Slater, was up in the air as bosses ‘considered all options’.

But it seems that she is set to remain on the show despite the legal run-in, as her on-screen ex-husband Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) is set to reprise his role in the show.

On screen, the couple’s fiery relationship came to a sudden end in 2018 when it emerged that Alfie had secretly fathered a son with her cousin Hayley – which resulted in their divorce.

With the return resulting in Jessie undoubtably being involved in tense-filled storylines, BBC bosses appear to have taken the arrest with a pinch of salt, after she is said to expressed ‘deep regret’ over the incident.

Admitting that the loss of Jessie would be ‘a disaster’ for the soap, a source told The Sun: ‘Shane’s return also secures the future of Jessie as Kat, because together they deliver one of EastEnders most captivating love stories.

‘Having them on the cast is seen as a dynamite combination that might get more diehard fans tuning in again.

‘Losing Jessie would have been a disaster for producers who are pinning a lot on new storylines they’re going to be at the centre off.’
