Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Chloë Grace Moretz to star in thriller White Night based on survivor’s haunting memoir about the Jonestown Massacre


It is one of the most harrowing tragedies in American history.

Now, a new film is being made surrounding the tragic events of the Jonestown Massacre, the mass cult suicide-murder that claimed 909 lives in Jonestown, Guyana in 1978.  

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Chloë Grace Moretz will topline the thriller, according to Deadline.

The project is being helmed by filmmaker Anne Sewitsky with a script based on survivor Deborah Layton’s memoir Seductive Poison. 

Chloë, 24, is set to play Deborah, whose haunting account of her time in Jim Jones’s Peoples Temple opened up the dark world of his deadly cult.

Meanwhile, Joseph, 40, will play Christian Socialist preacher and cult leader Jim.

The title of the movie ‘White Nights is what a paranoid Jones would call the drills that he carried out to make sure his community were ready for ‘attacks’ from the government. 

Filming on the movie is set to begin this spring. 

Deborah, who was a high-level member of Jim Jones’s Peoples Temple for seven years, escaped his infamous commune in the Guyanese jungle, leaving behind her mother, her older brother, and many friends. 

She had sought to warn people once she had left the commune, but was not taken seriously. 

Shortly after, in November 1978, the Jonestown massacre shocked the world.
