Kate Middleton earring shock: Sapphire gems 'NOT likely to have belonged to Diana'

The oval or cushion cut sapphires, of a fitting royal blue colour, measure about 2cts each, and are probably untreated.

These earrings, in contrast to some of the pieces kept in the Royal jewellery box, may not be enormous, but they are certainly striking and suit Kate perfectly.

As a thoughtful gift from William, these must-have great sentimental value to her, regardless of their belonging to another member of the Royal Family.

A pair of this quality could be expected to retail for around £40,000, but a pair with Royal heritage such as these could easily fetch in excess of £50,000.

If like Kate you already have the matching ring and earrings, then you could complete the look with one of our own pieces, this stunning diamond and sapphire cluster bracelet.
