Lauren Phillips is shocked by co-host's weird dating rule in his twenties

Radio host Lauren Phillips is shocked by colleague’s weird dating rule in his twenties: ‘What were you doing?!’

KIIS FM radio presenter Lauren Phillips was left flabbergasted by her co-host Jase Hawkins’ dating confession on Tuesday.

Jase admitted on air that when he was in his twenties he would only date women with a driver’s licence – because he couldn’t drive himself.

He admitted he was a ‘late bloomer’ who didn’t learn to drive until he was 26, so had to rely on other people – mostly girlfriends – for rides.

‘When I was mid-twenties, I would only date a girl if she had a licence,’ he said.

‘Because I didn’t have a licence. I’d just moved to Sydney.’

A shocked Lauren asked: ‘Why didn’t you have a licence?’

‘I was a late bloomer,’ Jase sheepishly replied, which prompted Lauren to burst into laughter.

‘What were you doing? Catching the tram around?’ she said.

Jase explained he was living in Perth in his early twenties and didn’t need to drive, so put off getting his licence until he was 26.

While many teenagers learn to drive as soon as they are able to, seeing it as a path to independence, a growing number of Australians wait until later to get their licence.

Young women are also more likely to have a licence than young men, data shows.
