Britain has been electrified with more than 1,600 lightning bolts overnight as it braces for a fresh deluge today.
The Met Office issued yellow weather warnings cautioning thunderstorms overnight covering southern England and parts of Wales. The warning, which expired at 5am, warned there was a “small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly” and there could be “lightning strikes or hail”. On Monday, heavy showers are expected in between outbreaks of sunshine in the UK, with BBC Weather warning of a fresh deluge after a damp end to the weekend.
