Lily Allen admits she didn't know if she could perform sober again following Glastonbury gig

Lily Allen has revealed she didn’t know if she would ever be able to get on stage sober again following her Glastonbury performance with Olivia Rodrigo.

The singer, 37, said her daughters Ethel, 10, and Marnie, nine, were ‘very proud’ to see their mother entertain the crowd at the festival, where Olivia invited her on stage during her set.

Sharing a clip of her performance to Instagram, Lily expressed her delight that her daughters got to see her play and described it as an ‘amazing day’.

She wrote: ‘Quite emosh. Things are truly messed up, but at least my babies got to see their mamma play and slay Glastonbury with their favourite pop star.

‘They were very proud and so was I. I didn’t know whether I’d be able to get up on a stage like that sober again if I’m honest, a part of me thought it was all in the past.

‘I had the most amazing day. Thanks @oliviarodrigo for having us. You smashed your first Glastonbury. Who knows, maybe i won’t hang up my [microphone] just yet.’

Olivia invited Lily on stage to perform her song F**k You in response to the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Lily shared several snaps of herself both on stage and backstage ahead of the performance along with a letter Olivia wrote her to thank her for joining her at the festival.

Olivia wrote: ‘Lily, thank you so much for sharing this day with me. It’s truly the biggest honour. Your music and your songwriting is so brilliant and I’ve been so inspired by you for years.

‘I’m so grateful to know you. Thank you for making this a day I’ll never forget. Olivia.’

Introducing her guest performer, Olivia said: ‘Someone that I absolutely adore is here today, I think she’s the most incredible song-writer, the most incredible artist, the most incredible person, and I’m so lucky that she’s here singing with me today.’

Lily was then seen giving the middle finger as she stood on stage, before saying: ‘We hate you guys!’ as the pair launched into the expletive-filled song.

The Supreme Court ended constitutional protections for abortion that have been in place for nearly 50 years by deciding to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v Wade ruling and hand back power to individual states to decide whether or not to permit the procedure.

The justices held that the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that allowed abortions performed before a fetus would be viable outside the womb – between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy – was wrongly decided because the U.S. Constitution makes no specific mention of abortion rights.

The ruling means that individual states now have the power to decide on whether to ban abortion. The Guttmacher Institute, a pro-choice research group, has said that 26 states are ‘certain or likely’ to ban abortion now.

Lily has always been candid about her drink and drug abuse, particularly when she released her memoir My Thoughts Exactly.

In 2018, she came under fire for glamourising drug-taking after admitting she snorted a line of ketamine at the Glamour Woman Of The Year Awards in 2008.

Describing what happened, Lily said: ‘Someone gave me a line of what I assumed to be cocaine at the Glamour awards once, but it turned out to be Ketamine. I was thrown out (passed over some railings) of the Glamour awards for being in a k hole.’

She added: ‘Obviously I couldn’t talk, or direct the driver so my assistant instructed the occupant of the car behind to ‘follow that cab’ I believe the occupant was @chattyman I have no idea what happened next.’
