Love Island's Shaughna Phillips reveals the that producers help to write the  recoupling speeches

‘It’s really produced’: Love Island star Shaughna Phillips reveals that the show’s producers ‘help to write the recoupling speeches the night before’

Shaughna Phillips has revealed that Love Island producers help the islanders to write their recoupling speeches a day prior to the actual ceremony.

The 28-year-old, who appeared on 2020’s winter version of the show, also described it as ‘really produced’.

Explaining that the recouplings take ‘hours and hours’, she added that crew also tell contestants to ‘grab people for chats’ and steer conversations.

Appearing on Alex Light & Em Clarkson’s Should I Delete That podcast, the star was questioned on how long the show’s iconic recoupling ceremonies really take.

‘Hours. Hours. You don’t normally have to re-do… if it’s something very dramatic, then obviously they can’t really redo that,’ she replied.

But they don’t go into the long ceremony blind, as she explained: ‘You kind of go over it with a producer before, that night. So like during dinner time you kind of talk through it. It’s really produced.’

And it isn’t an easy process either, as contestants have to say their speeches in three sections: ‘But when you’re doing, like, the “I would like to couple up with this person because…”you do that in three sections.

‘So you say that, and then you have a big pause, then you say the next bit, pause. They kind of ask you to go for chats and certain things. It’s a TV show, so I get it.

MailOnline have contacted Love Island representatives for comment.

Later in the podcast, Shaughna also slammed the famous ‘heart rate challenge’, which sees contestants perform sexy dance routines on one another in an attempt to get their heart pumping the fastest.

Dubbing the challenge ‘the most vile thing ever’, she explained that she ‘cried from lunchtime to the minute I walked out to dance’.

And she’s not alone in her thoughts on that section of the show, as recent dumpee Charlie Radnedge also opened up about the heart rate challenge recently via TikTok.

The recently returned star revealed that he didn’t get to choose his own outfit – after he received a wave of social media attention for his barely-there thong ensemble during the episode.
