Maude Apatow reacts to video of her interviewing One Direction as a 14-year-old on The Tonight Show

Before discussing her hit HBO series Euphoria, Maude Apatow took a walk down memory lane, reacting to video of herself at 14… freaking out before interviewing One Direction.

The 24-year-old actress plays Lexi on Euphoria, one of the best friends of Rue, played by Emmy winner Zendaya.

Ten years earlier, though, Maude, the oldest child of director Judd Apatow and actress Leslie Mann, was selected to interview One Direction, and she could clearly not contain her emotions in the video her father provided The Tonight Show.

Maude explained that when she was 13, she, ‘had a popular Twitter page when I was like 13 and I decided I wanted to become a child journalist.’

‘They asked me to interview One Direction on their first trip to America,’ she continued, adding, ‘it was like the scariest thing in my life.’

Fallon added that her father Judd videotaped her just before going to interview them, which they showed for the audience.

The video showed Maude covering her mouth and screaming ‘Oh my God!’ as Judd says, ‘In 10 minutes you’ll be in the room with One Direction! Let’s go!’

A hysterical Maude was then seen trying to speak… but only a strange sound came out, which she explained, simply, ‘I couldn’t even say words. Like they weren’t coming out.’

She was also shown a photo of her, overcome with emotions before the interview and another photo of her interviewing them, where she seemed to keep her composure, though Maude still doesn’t think the interview went well.

‘I don’t know if I did such a great job honestly. It couldn’t have been good,’ she said, though she admitted she hasn’t seen the interview since.

She then got to see One Direction in concert shortly after the interview, but Maude said it, ‘was even worse then.’

Fallon played another video of 14-year-old Maude on the floor, bawling, while her younger sister Iris scoffs and says, ‘Maude, you’re fine,’ while mother Leslie Mann sticks her tongue out at the camera.

She also revealed that she thinks fans will see more of her character Lexi on Season 2 of Euphoria, adding that she might surprise some people.

‘I think people think my character is sort of this shy, sweet one, but I think she might be just as crazy as everyone else,’ Maude said.

Euphoria continues its second season Sunday, January 23 at 9 PM ET on HBO.
