Meghan Markle and Harry fans lash out as Palace reacts to 'bullying' claims

Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, fans have lept to the couple’s defence on social media after Buckingham Palace confirmed it would launch a probe into the circumstances set out in a report of “bullying” allegations made against the Duchess of Sussex by former staff.

On Tuesday evening, Buckingham Palace released a statement after a report in The Times outlined an alleged complaint lodged by a former Palace employee.

The Palace statement read: “We are clearly very concerned about allegations in The Times following claims made by former staff of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“Accordingly our HR team will look into the circumstances outlined in the article.

“Members of staff involved at the time, including those who have left the Household, will be invited to participate to see if lessons can be learned.”

The statement added: “The Royal Household has had a Dignity at Work policy in place for a number of years and does not and will not tolerate bullying or harassment in the workplace.”

The statement was widely shared on social media and prompted an enraged response from Sussex fans.

One incensed fan wrote: “As an HR professional, I stand by my assessment that, if this was a real company, it would be on the ground.

“The lack of emotional intelligence in this family and the gross incompetence of the entire team (starting with the person who wrote this) is shocking.”

On Tuesday The Times reported Meghan was subject to a bullying complaint while living at Kensington Palace with  Harry.

Responding to the reports in The Times, a Sussex spokesman said: “The duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma.

“She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”

The explosive Times report emerged days before Meghan and Harry’s highly anticipated tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey is due to air on CBS on Sunday.
