‘Mould is gone!’: Mrs Hinch fans share top tips to clean washing machine seals – ‘amazing’

Mrs Hinch, real name Sophie Hinchliffe, rose to fame on Instagram after she started to share unusual cleaning tips and tricks. Fans of the cleaning guru now regularly share their own advice, including how to clean a washing machine seal.

Asking for help on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, one woman asked for help cleaning her washing machine.

Naomi Bennett wrote: “Please help! How do I clean the rubber seal on my washing machine?”

The Mrs Hinch fan shared a photo of the seal, showing a buildup of gunk and mould.

If not cleaned regularly, the obstructions may prevent the door from creating an airtight seal, resulting in a risk of water leakage from the drum.

Nicky Woodman wrote: “I use Astonish Mould & Mildew Blaster. I roll up some kitchen roll and put around the rubber seal then saturate the kitchen roll with the spray.

“Leave overnight and then scrub the next day.”

Tracy Chapman said: “Use Astonish Mould & Mildew Blaster!”

As well as cleaning the rubber seal itself, Mrs Hinch fans also recommended cleaning the drum and the drawers too.

Sue Baker commented: “Put two dishwasher tablets in the drum and put on a hot wash, brilliant stuff.”

Sally Birtwell wrote: “A mixture of a cup of white vinegar and a dessert spoon of bicarbonate of soda in the washing machine did the trick for me.”

Bicarbonate of soda has natural deodorising properties, making it great for using in the washing machine.
