Novak Djokovic LIVE: Novak may never play Aus Open again with three-year ban confirmed

Novak Djokovic will play no part in this year’s Australian Open after losing his 11-day standoff with Border Force and immigration officials. The will he/ won’t he saga swayed every day that Djokovic was in the country.

After being detained by Australia’s Border Force upon his arrival Down Under appeared to have prevented Djokovic’s chances at the first hurdle.

But the world No 1 went on to have his appeal upheld by Judge Anthony Kelly, allowing Djokovic to begin focusing on the start of the Australian Open.

Djokovic was spotted practicing inside Rod Laver Arena, the stadium in which he’s won a record nine Australian Open titles.

He was far from being in the clear though as Immigration Minister Alex Hawke held the ability to revoke Djokovic’s visa once more and that decision was made on Friday.

Judge Kelly precided over the appeal from Djokovic’s lawyers, but this time ruled in favour of the Australian goverment on Sunday.

Djokovic has since boarded an Emirates flight from Melbourne to Dubai, where he was greeted by dozens of fans.

And Australia’s Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews has now confirmed that Djokovic’s deportation will be followed by an automatic three-year ban.

“That cancellation was upheld by the Federal Court, so as a result of that, he will be banned from entry for three years into the country,” Ms Andrews said.
