Rita Ora is left stunned as The Voice Australia contestant performs one of her biggest hits

Rita Ora is left stunned as The Voice Australia contestant performs brilliant acoustic cover of one of her biggest hits: ‘This song changed my life’

Rita Ora could barely contain herself after a contestant on Monday’s episode of The Voice Australia performed one of her biggest hits.

The British pop star looked stunned as singer Asha Newman, 23, launched into an acoustic cover of R.I.P. – Rita’s hit single from 2012.

After the performance, Rita was so delighted that she rose to her feet to give Asha a standing ovation.

The track had taken her to number one on the UK charts, and Rita, 31, became emotional as she explained what it meant to her.

‘I am so emotionally connected to that song, because that song kickstarted my career. It’s kind of a redemption record,’ she said.

Rita then complimented Asha’s performance of the track, which she had rearranged to suit her acoustic vocals.

‘That was so fluid, it was fluid, it was almost like you were having a conversation,’ Rita complimented her.

‘It was so pure. I love doing acoustics, and you stripped it all back and you really told the story. Your voice sounded perfect. It was so pure.

‘[This song] changed my life and this could could not possibly change you life. I have to just say, you smashed that’ she added.

Asha then had to choose which of the judges she would go with for her coach after both Rita and Jessica Mauboy – who Asha also loves – had turned their chairs.

Ultimately, the singer, who hails from the Central Coast of NSW, went with Rita, who was happy to have her, and ran up to give her a hug.

‘I loved it! I love you, I love you! You were so good!’ Rita gushed as the overwhelmed young singer thanked her.
