Robbie Williams receives unanimous praise for electrifying AFL Grand Final pre-match performance – but some viewers were left underwhelmed by special guest Delta Goodrem

UK singer Robbie Williams ramped up the audience at the AFL Grand Final in an incredible pre-match performance at the MCG on Saturday.

Sports and rock and roll fans alike united on social media to commend the musician for his stellar show, which saw him belt out is hit singles like Angels, Rock DJ, and Kids.

Taking to Twitter, reviews of the performance were overwhelmingly positive towards Williams and the AFL organisers.

Fans were especially impressed by Robbie’s show-stopping performance with guest Delta Goodrem of Kids, originally sung with Kylie Minogue, which closed out the pre-match entertainment.

However, the most incredible moment of the performance was his rendition of the ballad Angels, which he dedicated to late cricket legend Shane Warne.

He described his friend Warne as ‘Australia’s greatest rock star’ as the cameras cut to his grieving son Jackson in the crowd at the world-famous sporting ground. 

The pop star also paid tribute to John Farnham – who was recently diagnosed with cancer – with a stirring performance of his signature song You’re the Voice, which had the whole crowd singing along in unison.

Williams ended the set with Kids, his 2000 chart-topping duet with Kylie Minogue, with Delta Goodrem standing in for the pop princess.
