Ruby Tuesday Matthews 'begged to appear on Byron Baes', says show star

Controversial influencer Ruby Tuesday Matthews has been accused of ‘wanting’ to appear on controversial Netflix series Byron Baes – despite publicly slamming the show as ’embarrassing’ and saying last year she’d ‘declined an offer’ to join the cast.

Byron Baes star Hannah Brauer alleged this week Matthews, 26, had tried to secure a contract with the streaming giant but ‘they didn’t want’ her.

Brauer, 30, came out with the allegation after Matthews posted a brutal Instagram comment about the show and its cast, saying: ‘Anyone with half a brain and an actual job that pays well declined.’

The mother of two continued: ‘Every local influencer that I know didn’t want to be part of it. Season two, if it’s been signed off by now, will start filming. I’m guessing [they] will have to film most of it overseas or in surrounding towns again.

‘I don’t know if the script could get any worse, but I guess starting filming after massive floods it’s probably the worst thing you could do.’

Matthews signed off by saying she would ‘love to see the cast donate their $500-a-day paycheck to flood victims’ in northern NSW ‘seeing as they are all so “well off” already, flaunting their cash, designer bags and fancy lifestyles’.

Her comment didn’t sit well with Brauer, who reposted Matthews’s spray on her Instagram Stories, and added: ‘While we are here setting things straight…

‘Now Ruby darling, we appreciate that you’ve jumped on every opportunity to ride the wave of our success of the show from the second the backlash started.

‘When in fact, you wanted a contract on this show. They didn’t want you.

‘Your entire career is based around doing exactly what we have all done on this show – worse though as you promote fast-fashion brands.

‘Oh, and I’ve never seen someone from Byron Bay wear more designer than you?! Where do you find the courage to be such a hypocrite? No more shoots at the Bisque home for you.’

The fashion marketing manager concluded: ‘It’s time for you to stop trying to tear us down to raise yourself up.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Matthews, Brauer and Netflix for further comment.

In April last year, Matthews posted a promotional image for Byron Baes on Instagram, and wrote: ‘For everyone asking if I’ll be on this show, I declined the offer.’

‘Goodbye Byron, you are officially cooked. How embarrassing,’ she added.

Matthews also used the hashtag #ShireRepeat? in reference to Channel 10’s short-lived 2012 reality show about the glamorous residents of Sydney’s Sutherland Shire.

She also told Daily Mail Australia in June: ‘Half the crew aren’t even from there!’

When asked if there was any possibility she would reconsider appearing on the show Matthews said: ‘No… No way.’

And in February, Matthews ruthlessly mocked the cast of Byron Baes once again in a series of posts on Instagram Stories.

She shared a screenshot of a Daily Mail Australia story about Karl Stefanovic’s disgusted reaction to the reality show, and gave her two cents on the program’s cast.

Matthews wrote: ‘At least the cast will finally get what their egos and Instagram accounts need: “followers”.

‘Because I’m still having a hard time figuring out how they have marketed these people as influencers.’

She clarified in the next slide she was not connected to anyone on the series.

‘I don’t associate with anyone on this show,’ she added – despite being pictured alongside Byron Baes star Saskia Wotton several times in the past.

Byron Baes follows the lives of 14 influencers who help each other grow their brands, connections and social followings in the idyllic Australian beach town of Byron Bay.

Critics on Twitter described the show as ‘cringeworthy’ and ‘brain-numbing’, yet many admitted they simply couldn’t switch it off.
