SAS Australia season three premiere bombs in the ratings as Nine’s Married at First Sight continues to dominate

SAS Australia has had a rough start to the year after its third season premiere bombed in the ratings on Monday night.

The opening episode of Seven’s military-style series recorded a dismal 467,000 metro viewers and was bested by Nine’s rival reality show Married At First Sight, which won the prime-time slot for the night.

It was a poor opener for SAS Australia in comparison to previous years, with 2021’s premiere recording 647,000 metro viewers and season one launching to 834,000.

Last year’s opening episode did relatively well, beating out the launch of 10’s rival series The Masked Singer and most other programs, whereas Monday night’s premiere performed poorly against other entertainment shows.

SAS Australia was beaten by Married At First Sight, Back Roads (545,000), Seven’s own Home and Away (542,000) and The Chase Australia (484,000), Australian Survivor (479,000) and The Project (478,000).

Married At First Sight was the clear winner on Monday, dominating the competition with 823,000 metro viewers.

The latest season of MAFS has performed well this year, drawing between 750,000 and just under a million metro viewers per episode.

Nine’s flagship entertainment show also took out all three key demos on Monday.

By comparison, SAS Australia did not rank in any of the key demos.
