Sydney radio ratings: Kyle and Jackie O edge closer to 2GB's Ben Fordham


Sydney radio ratings battle heats up as KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O edge closer to 2GB talkback king Ben Fordham

The gap is narrowing between Sydney’s most popular breakfast radio programs: KIIS 106.5’s Kyle and Jackie O and Ben Fordham Live on 2GB.

The fourth ratings survey of 2022, released on Tuesday, saw Kyle and Jackie O grow its audience by 0.9 per cent to secure a 13.3 per cent market share.

But Fordham maintained his No. 1 spot across both AM and FM bandwidths, even after shedding listeners for two surveys in a row.

The talkback king dropped 0.2 per cent from the last survey but still won overall with an impressive 15.5 per cent audience share.

In the third ratings survey, released in May, Fordham had 15.7 per cent of the market, having dropped 3.2 per cent since the previous survey.

Meanwhile, both ABC Sydney and WSFM’s Jonesy & Amanda saw a drop in their audience in the latest ratings.

James Valentine, who hosts breakfast for ABC Sydney, was down 0.3 per cent to finish with a 10.3 per cent share.

Jonesy & Amanda recorded an eight per cent share, down 0.8 per cent.

SmoothFM breakfast host Bogart Torelli had a boost of one per cent to bring his audience share to a decent 7.2 per cent.

There was both good news and bad for the ABC youth station Triple J.

Despite gaining listeners since the last survey, jumping from 3.9 to 4.3 per cent, the latest numbers reveal Triple J is losing appeal within the 18-24 demographic.

Triple J Breakfast, hosted by Bryce Mills and Ebony Boadu, finished the fourth survey on a 4.1 per cent audience share, an increase of 0.3 per cent from May’s results.

2GB was once again Sydney’s No. 1 station overall with 12.9 per cent of the market, which was a slight dip of 0.1 per cent from the last survey.

KIIS 106.5 came in second with 10.2 per cent, and SmoothFM placed third on 9.6 per cent.

WSFM was fourth on 8.7 per cent, while ABC Sydney finished fifth with 7.9 per cent of the market.
