Tessa Thompson says her openness about her own bisexuality has inspired fans to come out to their loved ones: ‘I’ve had so many folks write me’

Tessa Thompson discussed being open about her bisexuality during an interview with Variety that was shared on Thursday.

The 38-year-old, who came out four years ago, is proud of the fact that fans have credited her with making them feel more comfortable about their own sexuality.

She also discussed how she was happy to represent the LGBTQ+ community by portraying Valkyrie in Marvel’s recently-released superhero flick Thor: Love And Thunder.

Thompson noted that she was more than willing to serve as an inspiration for her fans with regard to coming out.

She stated: ‘I’ve had so many folks write me and say that they were able to come out or to talk to their family, which is a dream.’

The performer went on to state that she was also proud to be able to represent LGBT+ characters on screen and was looking forward to doing so in the future. 

‘I think a part of really being able to normalize queer characters, LBGTQIA characters, is to allow them to exist in their humanity,’ she said.

Thompson also discussed how she wanted to see a sense of realism being used in stories focused on LGBTQ+ people. 

She noted that many non-heterosexual characters would likely not constantly be ‘in love or in a partnership because plenty of us know that sometimes you’re not.’

The Passing actress then spoke about Valkyrie’s personal life and expressed that the superheroine was looking to find an ideal partner.

‘She’s flirty. She’s out in the world. She’s ready for love. She’s definitely single and ready to mingle, but also I think, when the time is right,’ she said.

Thompson also noted that the open-endedness of Marvel productions may allow for certain fans’ fantasies about the character to be realized in the future. 

‘I think that’s also the fun thing about the MCU in general, is there’s a world in which you could see a lot of these characters in different multiverses ending up together,’ she said. 

The actress appeared alongside performers such as Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale and Natalie Portman in the superhero movie, which was released this past Friday. 

The Taika Waititi-directed flick was centered on the titular Asgardian as he tries to stop Gorr the God Butcher from eliminating all celestial beings.

Thor: Love And Thunder had its world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood last month, and it was released to the public on Friday.

The movie has since received generally positive reviews from critics, with much praise going towards the performance of its cast.

It has since grossed a worldwide total of $148,900,000, according to Box Office Mojo.
