The Batman dominates box office as superhero flick earns $128M on opening weekend

The Batman dominates the box office as the Robert Pattinson-led superhero flick earns $128M on opening weekend

The Batman proved to be this weekend’s highest-earning feature, as it earned a staggering $128.5million opening at the domestic box office.

The news about the Robert Pattinson-starring feature was reported by The Hollywood Reporter, who also noted that the movie’s nearly three-hour-long runtime did not put off viewers.

It’s also the only second pandemic-era movie to cross the $100million mark in a single weekend, a feat first achieved by Spider-Man: No Way Home, which launched last December to a historic $260 million.

The Batman is centered on the titular superhero and follows him attempting to take on corruption in Gotham City while taking on The Riddler.

In addition to the star, the flick features the talents of performers such as Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano and Colin Farrell, among others.

It was also reported that 65% of the movie’s audience was male over this past weekend.

The flick brought in moviegoers between the ages of 18 and 34 in droves, as they made up 60% of total attendees.

The Batman grossed a healthy $21.6 million during Thursday previews and fan screenings, which also took place earlier in the week.

It went on to take in $26.5 million on Friday, when it also grossed a foreign total of $54 million.

The feature took in $6.4 million from the United Kingdom alone, and the media outlet reported that the movie was 24% ahead of the DC Comics-based film Joker.

The film’s release in Russia was notably scrapped at the last minute after the invasion of Ukraine.

The movie also remains unreleased in China, one of the world’s largest markets, and it will make its debut on March 14.

The world’s largest exhibitor, AMC Entertainment, is also using The Batman to test out variable pricing for regular digital screenings.

The feature has received positive reviews from critics, and it currently holds an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ninety percent of audiences also reported enjoying the movie, according to the media outlet.

The Batman is also being seen as the start of a new franchise centered on the masked vigilante.

Pattinson told Empire that he had major plans for the character’s future in new films, but he had interest in pursuing more of the interesting persona.

‘I’ve made a kind of map for where Bruce’s psychology would grow over two more movies. I would love to do it,’ he said.
