The Block: Sharon Johal calls out producers' dirty tricks, brutal hours

The Block contestant Sharon Johal is continuing to slam her ‘villain edit’ on the Channel Nine show.

The former Neighbours star, 35, said her life in the public eye is now very different after she and husband Ankur Dogra were edited to look like the bad guys.

‘I’ve played villains in my acting career and they’re always fun, but no, we don’t consider ourselves villains – and neither does anyone who knows us,’ she told TV Week.

Sharon also called out the producers for their dirty tricks, after private conversations between the couple – which had been picked up by the microphones attached to their clothes – were ‘replayed and used in a storyline’.

She went on to blast the horrific work conditions the teams endured on site.

‘We were fatigued from non-stop work, sleep deprivation, no days off, not always eating well, freezing cold and sometimes having no access to hot showers,’ she said.

Sharon insisted she and Ankur are ‘everyday Australians’ and ‘genuine’ people despite their negative portrayal, which has resulted in them being flooded with racist abuse on social media.

It comes after the Melbourne couple admitted it had been ‘tough’ watching back their ‘dark’ experience.

‘It’s been dark, but it was tough on the show and we made it through stronger than ever,’ Ankur, 45, told Daily Mail Australia recently.

Sharon said she found it really hard to relive the drama that unfolded during filming.

‘It is hard to watch it back because obviously went through what we went through on the show,’ she explained.

‘I didn’t actually think about what it would be like to watch it all over again, but yeah, it has been really tough.’

Sharon confessed she didn’t think The Block would be as dramatic as it turned out to be, but said she had no regrets about joining the series.

‘I’ve been on scripted television before, but it’s different because you really don’t have any control about what it’s going to come across as, but all you can do is be yourself, and be honest,’ she said.

The couple has faced major backlash after they were accused of cheating. Sharon even deleted her Instagram account to have a break from the relentless trolling.

With casting for The Block 2023 now open, the pair said would-be contestants without any tradie experience should think twice before applying.

‘I’d think really hard about obviously going on there. It’s great to be a tradie, but if you’re not a tradie, it’s hard work – but it’s rewarding,’ Ankur said.

Sharon added: ‘Make sure you’ve got a really good support network behind you and think twice about opening yourself up to all of Australia on national television four times a week for three months.’
