And Channel Nine is now considering a ‘new role’ for the 31-year-old reporter following her recent success on the breakfast program.

While sources say the Today show’s line-up will not change, the former beauty queen is seen as a ‘future star’ at the network.

Some insiders have suggested she may end up on Weekend Today.

Scherri-Lee filled in for weatherman Tim over the Christmas holidays, and within a matter of days viewers were calling for her to have a full-time role.

Fans flooded the model’s Instagram page with gushing comments, begging her to ditch her native Perth and stay in Sydney.

‘Holy smokes. I’m switching to Nine,’ wrote one, while another added: ‘Sydney’s gain, Perth’s loss!’

A third commented: ‘You need to be the new full-time weather girl on Today show!’

However, Scherri-Lee dashed their dreams by confirming she would be heading back to Perth once her temporary gig in Sydney was up.

‘I’ve got a few more weeks before I head back to the wild wild west,’ she said.

In another comment, she said she had enjoyed her time on the Today show but admitted it had been hard work.

‘It’s been so much fun,’ she wrote. ‘Now I know why Tim Davies deserves a well earned break.’

Scherri-Lee shot to fame when she won Miss Universe Australia in 2011 – the year after Jesinta Franklin took the crown.

She went on to represent her country in the Miss Universe 2011 pageant, placing in the top 10.
