Train strikes LIVE: Britons brace for chaos as more than 9,000 drivers across UK walk out

Britons are faced with another day of travel chaos on Wednesday, as more than 9,000 train drivers stage a walkout. Members of the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (Aslef) will strike across 12 train operating companies, such as Northern, Avanti West Coast and Southeastern.

Wednesday’s strikes are the latest in a series of walkouts over pay, jobs and working conditions.

The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport workers (RMT) staged a walkout on Saturday, October 1 and has another walkout planned for October 8. Aslef has timed today’s strike around the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham.

It also coincides with a number of football fixtures. If no agreement is made between rail companies and the unions, strikes could continue to cause disruption for months to come.
