Train strikes LIVE: Commuters brace for four-hour delays TODAY under 'thinner' services

Despite there not being any industrial action today, only 60 percent of services will be running on Wednesday, largely due to a delay to the start of services as staff did not do overnight shifts on Tuesday into Wednesday. Tuesday’s strikes will be followed by further industrial action on Thursday and Saturday in what RMT describes as the “biggest dispute on the network since 1989”. The union has stated that Network Rail and the train operating companies have subjected staff to “multiyear pay freezes and plan to cut thousands of jobs which will make the railways unsafe” and states that despite intense talks with rail bosses, it has not been able to come to an agreement. RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said: “Rail companies are making at least £500million a year in profits, whilst fat cat rail bosses have been paid millions during the COVID-19 pandemic. This unfairness is fuelling our members’ anger and their determination to win a fair settlement.”
