The Northern Ireland Protocol
The Brexit debate has primarily focussed on the Northern Ireland protocol since 2021, with Conservatives and DUP members opposed to the deal they originally agreed with the EU.
As Foreign Secretary, Ms Truss still leads discussions with EU leaders and has repeatedly threatened to implement Article 16 without further action on the bloc’s part.
The debate at its centre is over trade, however, meaning the responsibility falls partly to Ms Trevelyan.
She is less outspoken on the Northern Ireland front but has provided a level head when tensions flare.
